Because
the development of children is intertwined with the
society in which they live, and how well that society
supports and sustains its families and individuals,
we can conclude that it takes
a village to raise a child.
The Childrens Village consists of 4 acres of land,
in Parramos, Guatemala, that was purchased thanks to
a generous donation by the Herfindahl family in Yreka,
California. There, our first step is to build a Daycare
Center, where working mothers can leave their |
children,
at no expense, with the peace of mind that they will
be well cared for. The Daycare Center will also prevent
older siblings from missing school, as it is customary
that the older sister (often younger than 12 years old)
stays home to take care of the little ones.
All the children will attend the bilingual school, staffed
by volunteers and local teachers, in the village. Our
library will be equipped with computers, books and a
wide variety of other learning materials. The Childrens
Village will also have an Early Childhood Education
center, staffed by expert volunteers, who will run it

assistance from the Guatemalan teachers, allowing
both the volunteers and the teachers to develop new
skills.
Developed by Nancy
Bailey, the program depends on close
friends of Semillas de Amor and many supporters
who have watched and participated in the evolution of
the Children's Village. |
