Seeds of Love
The mission of Semillas de Amor Children's Village is to provide care, high-level education, and solid futures for Guatemala's at-risk children. In addition to consisting of a home for children who are unable to remain with their families, plans for the children's village include a school, a clinic, and a daycare facility for working mothers. The facility is in the early stages of construction. We are currently seeking donors and volunteers interested in helping make this dream a reality.
A Visit to Micropolis
This week our kids visited Micropolis in Guatemala City. This is the second year they have attended the program. Micropolis is a program, that runs for one week every year, where kids can learn about numerous careers as well as many businesses and what they manufacture and how they do it. After an entire morning in Micropolis the kids dined at Pizza Hut. As you can see, they really had a good time.
Semillas de Amor/La Ronda Equestrian Team
I hope you enjoy the photos of the Semillas de Amor/La Ronda Equestrian team. The children love riding and, if we could afford it, would be riding everyday. I had to brag a little about my kids and how well they are doing too.
A Sad Goodbye and a Happy New Beginning
Saying goodbye to little Carmen has been difficult for all of us. She has a wonderful new family but goodbye is always tough. We had a picnic today at the children's village to say goodbye to Carmen and to celebrate her new life. The children had lots of fun seeing the changes in the children's home and loved the new colorful floors. They are ready to move and try out their new home! We have 13 avocados trees so there was a lot of avocado picking and we came home with several boxes of avocados. Guacamole anyone?
Semillas de Amor's Valentine Sweethearts
On Valentine's Day the children at Semillas de Amor celebrated Valentine's Day with fun, games, pizza and heart shaped cookies. You can see by the photos that the kids has a wonderful time. Such joyful faces.
Children's Village Update
Just a bit of fine tuning at the children's village construction site and all will be finished. Except, of course for the electricity. We hope to receive more information soon, if and when, the electricity will be available. Even though we had to use a gas generator to turn on the lights and the water it still was very exciting to see both working. The three solar hot water heaters are up and ready to go. I never realized how beautiful solar can be.
Making Valentines
In preparation for Valentines Day (Dia del Carino) next week our kids made valentines. We were fortunate to have Marlisa, a volunteer, come and spend a day with the kids making valentines and little cars.
CARNAVAL
Wednesday, February 6th, we celebrated Carnaval with costumes, cascarones filled with confetti and pizza. Tradition is that the kids hollow out eggs, fill them with confetti, cover the egg with colorful tissue paper and then break the eggs over each others heads. As you can see by the photos the kids loved smacking each other over the head with the eggs and then later dined on pizza. It was a fun day for all for everyone.
