Seeds of Love: April 2007

Seeds of Love

The mission of Semillas de Amor Children's Village is to provide care, high-level education, and solid futures for Guatemala's at-risk children. In addition to consisting of a home for children who are unable to remain with their families, plans for the children's village include a school, a clinic, and a daycare facility for working mothers. The facility is in the early stages of construction. We are currently seeking donors and volunteers interested in helping make this dream a reality.

Raising the Roof at the Children's Village--Week 9

We are raising the roof at the children's village! Our construction is moving along quickly and smoothly. We are about 60% finished with the building but will need funding to finish. Please help us complete our children's home. The rainy season is looming close by and our lease at our current facility ends May 1st and we really need to finish construction. Any donation will be gratefully appreciated and will help. Please be a part of our children's lives and the future of Guatemalan children.

Tax deductible donations can be made payable to Seeds of Love and sent to:

Construction Update--Week 7

Week 7 of construction has just passed us and construction continues to move forward. The reality that the dream of a safe and loving home for children in the clean air of the country is becoming a reality. Although we still do not have sufficient funding to finish building we are moving forward with a leap of faith that the money will be there.

I had a meeting last week with one of our neighboring farms that is very supportive of the children's village and we have had promises of help from them. It is a win-win situation for both of us as we will also be providing childcare and health care services for their employees' children. Our children's village is located right in the middle of several large exportation farms and we hope that other farm owners will be interested in helping as well.

As I explained to the president of the large farm about the children's village, I related to him that the children's home is being funded almost 100% by adoption money. Donations from adoptive parents, friends and family members of adoptive parents and funds from adoptions. The children's home is a home built by the love and generosity of adoption. I thank all of you who have contributed, so far, and for those of you considering a donation.

A Visit from "Amigos-de-Guatemala"

Last week members of the non-profit foundation, Amigos-de-Guatemala, came for a very special visit to Semillas de Amor. All of the children received presents, especially chosen for them. The older children received their very own backpack full of goodies. They were thrilled as you will see in the photos. The following day the group took our kids to the water park. It was a wonderful day for everyone. The kids and all the adults had so much fun. Guatemala is currently in the summer season so swimming and wading pools were perfect. Most of the children had never been in a swimming pool and you can see by the photos how much fun they had.

Thank you Cindy Brown and everyone who worked so hard to make our childrens' lives so much brighter.
