Seeds of Love

The mission of Semillas de Amor Children's Village is to provide care, high-level education, and solid futures for Guatemala's at-risk children. In addition to consisting of a home for children who are unable to remain with their families, plans for the children's village include a school, a clinic, and a daycare facility for working mothers. The facility is in the early stages of construction. We are currently seeking donors and volunteers interested in helping make this dream a reality.

Eye Exams at Semillas de Amor

In July, our children at Semillas de Amor, our employees and their children were treated to free eye exams by Dr. Brad Jacoby and his family. They not only examined 80 patients but provided all glasses free of charge to our children, employees and their children. One of the children, of a Semillas de Amor employee, was in great need of glasses. He is 9 years old and nobody had any idea that he was unable to see. His new glasses will surely make a difference in his studies at school. An eye exam is a luxury in Guatemala but then to be provided, free of charge, glasses is truly a gift. Thank you to Dr. Jacoby and family!

The Children's Village First Work Team

In July we had our very first work team come to the Children's Village site. And work they did. The volunteers planted 350 bouganvelia plants and painted, inside and out, our guardian's house. The Children's Village site looks wonderful and thank you so much to our work team, The Return to Guatemala Group, and their children, most of whom had been adopted from Guatemala.

Water found in Parramos at the Children's Village site!

In mid-April we were given great news, Daho Pozos had found water on the children's village site. They had started drilling the week before and drilled down 600 feet and found not only water but 150 gallons per minute of water.

We wish to thank the Shasta Valley Rotary in Yreka, California as well as David and Ann Herfindahl and the Guatemala City Sur Rotary Club and Dr. Estuardo Zachrisson for their support of our well project and making it possible.

A Day at La Ronda Horse Farm

Earlier in the month we took a group of 12 children to a local equestrian center. The kids were learning about different sports and really wanted to learn about horses and riding.

When we arrived at the farm the children were very nervous around the horses and nobody wanted to touch them. My daughter, Gaby who has been riding for 4 1/2 years, gave the kids a presentation on the tack used for riding a horse, how you care for it and then went on to talk about horses and how you care for them. She brought out the brushes and all the kids started to brush the horses. They were so excited and needless to say the horses loved all the attention.

Our next step was having the kids ride the horses. None of the children had ridden before. However, once we got the kids on the horses it was nearly impossible to get them off. We stayed much longer than anticipated and all of us had a wonderful time.

Semillas de Amor Art Exhibition

Last week we were treated to an art exhibition by the older children, ages 6 to 14. The kids and their teacher, Ceci, have been working on numerous art projects. I was amazed by the children's creativity. Their enthusiasm was contagious and the pride in their work touching. Posted are some of our artists' work.
